Playground
Food Design Playground is a place where you learn to look differently at something very ordinary: food. In this monumental location in the center of Dordrecht, it is not about fancy tables or perfectly presented plates, but about your senses. Here, it is about what food does — to your body, your thoughts, your memories.
We organize pop-up dinners with radical chefs and designers. For example, you can experience an audio tasting where you listen blindfolded to a story that takes place in your mouth. There are exhibitions and installations about food design, a food-book club 'eat what you read', and children's theater with edible workshops.
In addition, this is also the place where you can get started yourself. During retreats and workshops you will learn how to use food as a design material — or as a means to tell a story, design a ritual, and really touch people.
a home for food design
There is a library full of books on food design, food culture, system, language, shapes and philosophy. And a small concept shop where you can find sensory gifts, special objects and edible ideas. Food Design Playground is not a normal restaurant. You can't just drop in for lunch. We work on an event basis - performances, dinners, workshops and other moments when the door is wide open. And good to know: you don't have to be a designer to feel at home. 'Ordinary' people with curiosity and a mouth are more than welcome here. For everyone who has had enough of food as a product, and is looking forward to food as a process. For dreamers, thinkers, makers, doubters and gourmets. For those who have the courage to take their taste buds into unknown territory.

Want to organise something yourself? The various spaces can be rented for creative gatherings, meetings, dinners, lectures or inspiration sessions. With or without catering, always with character. Food design Playground is an initiative of Marije Vogelzang. Marije started as a designer in 1999 and is one of the pioneers in the field. Food Design Playground is a place to taste, think and make. To be touched — through your tongue.
