Been there, done that - BEANS and BLOOM
BEANS & BLOOM — Summer Edition (June 12–14, 2026)
Beans, but with a twist. Three days of food, art, and imagination. Beans & Bloom lets you see, touch, and experience beans like never before.
Beans aren't just a side dish.
Beans are a starting point.
During BEAN THERE (done that) – Beans & Bloom, Food Design Playground transforms into a vibrant world where beans take center stage for three days. No dry lectures or finger-wagging—just a sensory experience brimming with flavor, art, conversation, and unexpected encounters.
Here, beans are being reinvented—through imagination, play, and shared meals.
From an intimate lunch to a lively festival day: each day has its own unique character, but together they form a single story. You can choose just one day… or immerse yourself completely.
Friday, June 12 — Lunch experience
Bean Archives: The Exchange
by Studio H & Juwan Beyers Food Design
A lunch as an archive, as a conversation, as a medium of exchange.
You take a seat at a living library of South African beans. The table becomes a system where beans serve as currency, and where stories of colonial history, migration, and food culture come to life.
What you share determines what you receive.
Includes:
– Introduction by Marije Vogelzang
– Admission to the Beans & Bloom microfestival
– Oral Oracle installation
– Silent Garden guided tour
– Bean art and candy shop
Friday, June 12, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Saturday, June 13 — Lunch or dinner
The Hummus Academy
with Umayya Abu Hanna & Mary Ann Jaraisy
A culinary journey that begins at the bean’s place of origin: Palestine.
Based on their book *A Palestinian Dinner*, this dining experience transforms chickpeas into vessels of history, identity, and knowledge. You’ll taste not only dishes, but also stories that span generations.
A meal that brings people together—culturally, politically, and on a human level.
Includes the same side events as Friday.
Saturday, June 13, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Sunday, June 14 — Festival Day (includes lunch)
A day when everything comes together.
You’ll start with a communal lunch to which you’ll contribute—a playful concept centered around green beans, communication, and memory. After that, you’re free to explore the festival: workshops, lectures, installations, and performances.
What to expect:
– Workshop in the Silent Garden on beans and permaculture
– Bean Bar with surprising bean-based drinks
– Lectures and tastings by The Hummus Academy
– The Oral Oracle: let a bean predict your future
– Horny Houmous workshop (yes, exactly that)
– Bean soup at long tables with strangers
– Aquafaba flowers, bean disco, and art installations
Creators and voices from home and abroad fill the spaces with ideas, flavors, and energy.
Sunday, June 14, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Why beans?
Because they encompass everything:
—culture, history, politics, the future.
But mainly because they're waiting for a new story.
Instead of telling you what to eat, Beans & Bloom invites you to see, taste, and think differently.
Excitement instead of polarization.
Longing instead of admonishment.
