Been there, done that - BEANS and BLOOM

BEANS & BLOOM — Summer Edition (June 12–14, 2026)

Beans, but with a twist. Three days of imagination, workshops, lunches, and a festival to shake you up—physically, philosophically, and festively—with pure bean love. Come join us. Look beyond boundaries and let your thoughts about beans grow and flourish.

Beans aren't just a side dish.
Beans are a starting point.

During BEAN THERE (done that) – Beans & Bloom, Food Design Playground transforms into a vibrant world where beans take center stage for three days. No dry lectures or finger-wagging—just a sensory experience brimming with flavor, art, conversation, and unexpected encounters.

Here, beans are being reinvented—through imagination, play, and shared meals.

From an intimate lunch to a lively festival day: each day has its own unique character, but together they form a single story. You can choose just one day… or immerse yourself completely.

Friday, June 12 — Lunch experience

Bean Archives: The Exchange
by Studio H & Juwan Beyers Food Design

A lunch as an archive, as a conversation, as a medium of exchange.
You take a seat at a living library of South African beans. The table becomes a system in which beans function as currency, and in which stories about colonial history, migration, and food culture become tangible.
What you eat determines what you share.
What you share determines what you receive.

with Umayya Abu Hanna & Mary Ann Jaraisy

A narrative dining experience where you’ll mold, roll, smell, listen, and taste. You’ll not only enjoy inspiring dishes, but also stories that span generations.
A meal that brings people together, where beans get the makeover they deserve: with za’atar, pomegranate, eggplant, sumac, and a whole lot of love.

Sunday, June 14 — Festival Day (includes lunch)

A day when everything comes together.

You’ll start with a communal lunch to which you’ll contribute—a playful concept centered around green beans, communication, and memory.
Then you’ll make your way through the festival: workshops, lectures, installations, and performances.

What to expect:
– Hear stories in the Silent Garden about blooming beans and permaculture
– Bean Bar featuring surprising milkshakes, soft-serve ice cream, and bean glamour
– From bland to fantastic: Bean makeover ritual with za’atar
- Bean whisperer and cookbook author Joeri Veul teaches you everything about ‘food videography’; let those beans swing!
– The Oral Oracle: a bean can predict your future
– Horny Hummus workshop (yes, exactly that)
– South African bean soup
– Aquafaba flowers, bean disco, and art installations

Creators and voices from home and abroad fill the spaces with ideas, flavors, and energy.

Sunday, June 14, 10:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
€42.50 (includes lunch and bean snacks)

Why beans?

Because they encompass everything:
—culture, history, politics, the future.

But mainly because they're waiting for a new story.

Instead of telling you what to eat, Beans & Bloom invites you to see, taste, and think differently.

Excitement instead of polarization.
Longing instead of admonishment.
