Club Crystal
Club Kristall - musical performance plus extensive lunch
Immerse yourself in the vibrant nightlife of 1939. Come party, drink, and laugh with us. Artists in theaters and clubs light up the night with tender love songs, silly sketches, and theatrical monologues.
But then the occupier presents a dilemma: should you continue performing in wartime? Will you still be allowed to do so in the future? And will I still be allowed to be there at all, as a homosexual actor, Jewish singer, or rebellious jazz musician?
Club Kristall is a musical performance featuring the true stories of artists in the Netherlands during wartime. Many of them continued to perform, even after warnings and even after deportation. Because that's what kept them going.
Theater maker/singer Quirine Smit and comedian Robbert Jan Proos rediscover forgotten works. Assisted by the research of comedy archivist Richard van Bilsen (zwartekat.nl), they searched for, found, and recount their stories. Because the show must go on!
Before the performance, food designer Marije Vogelzang and her team will serve an extensive, original lunch inspired by wartime.
Not a nostalgic reconstruction, but a sensory translation from then to now. Dishes with aroma, created out of scarcity — in which ingenuity, simplicity, and care are central.

Performance plus lunch
Immerse yourself in the nightlife of 1939. Love songs, jazz, cabaret — and the threat of the occupying forces. Performance with accompanying drinks and an extensive lunch.war food
“War food” may not sound particularly appealing at first. After all, tulip bulbs and sugar beets are rarely found on anyone’s list of favorite foods. Nevertheless, we are preparing a special and tasty lunch.
Creativity born of scarcity means that we use techniques such as fermentation, drying, and preserving to transform ingredients into layered and surprising dishes. We also work with scent and other senses, so that food becomes part of the whole experience.
The photo shows one of the first wartime dishes that Marije made for the Rotterdam Historical Museum.
