Language of Food - Almost Summer Edition: The Color Green
Dive into the color palette of a midsummer kitchen, inspired by a lush green aesthetic
The "Language of Food Editions" are inspirational sessions where storytelling and aesthetics share equal prominence. Focused on exploring color palettes, each session is organized around a transitional moment in the seasons.
Setting the scene
Since food is never just food, I draw inspiration from art, botany, history, and fashion to explore edible ingredients as a creative medium. I share insights on how focusing on a specific color not only inspires dramatically different dishes but also leads to unexpected cooking techniques in the kitchen. Together, we explore why we eat what we eat and how cultural perspectives shape our choices.
How
After a shared lunch designed specifically to inspire, we explore how color evokes nostalgia for foods and seasons that are often more sentimental than realistic. We investigate how to capture fleeting flavors in a “kitchen perfume pantry,” and address the question of how to cook with simple ingredients layered with an abundance of complex flavors curated throughout the year.
Why
We explore how food design plays a role in everyday cooking. Inspired by the aromas of the season, we experiment with ingredient choices to challenge our culinary habits and food systems. Think fava beans, garlic chives, and more . . .
Almost Summer | and the Green Aesthetic
If early summer were a color palette, it would be shades of green—from pale fava beans to green peas in their pods and a myriad of soft, leafy aromatic herbs. The spectrum of summer ranges from pale to bright—the question is, how can we appreciate its beauty?
